Innovative Events in the Mill

Fall has just begun and we’re excited about all of the events we have scheduled in the Mill in the coming months.   Earlier in September we hosted IdeaMensch in the MWG office space.  IdeaMensch is a national community-driven initiative currently touring the lower 48 states. Each event brings together entrepreneurs and their resident communities with the mission of helping individuals bring their own ideas to life.

IdeaMensch Burlington was a huge success, with standing room only.   Close to 150 people were in attendance, from local college students to professionals looking for inspiration as they explore their own entrepreneurial ideas.   MWG CEO, Rich Tarrant, was one of the featured speakers and described how important it is to have strong motivation and a relentless drive to get your idea off the ground.   Other speakers included Will Raap, the Founder and Chairman of Gardener’s Supply; Michael Jager, the Creative Director and President of JDK Design; and Ethan Waldman, Founder of Cloud Coach. Cairn Cross of FreshTracks Capital was also pivotal in organizing the event and rallying excitement from the local community. Overall, it was an informative evening with a diverse set of perspectives, and each speaker had their own unique suggestions on how to harness the entrepreneurial spirit.

In October we’re excited to continue this creative trajectory with the second annual HackVT.     The theme of this year’s hackathon is Vermont and participants will have 24 hours to create a killer app to benefit the community and state of Vermont. We are proud to be partnering with Dealer.com and FairPoint Communications as co-sponsors, and are expecting a big turnout.   This is the first hackathon in the nation to benefit a state.   We are very excited to see what our competitors create.

Just one week after HackVT, we will be hosting Tech Jam in the Mill.   The event started five years ago, with the goal of bringing awareness to Vermont’s numerous opportunities in the field of technology. Tech Jam has grown enormously since its first year and we’re happy to be involved in another event that fosters talent and inspires new and creative ideas in the tech field and beyond. There are great innovators everywhere, especially Vermont and we’re excited for this fall’s events.
