MyWebGrocer’s clients already have about two-thirds of their online volume being processed through pick-up, and one-third through home delivery. Alec Newcomb says the overall U.S. market will evolve to the volume percentages experienced by his company’s retailers. “Pick-up will become the dominant platform in the U.S., with delivery in urban areas where it makes economic sense,” he said. “The reason is that pick-up is a lot more profitable than home delivery,” especially given rising gas prices.
